There are new criteria that apply to CA Training Offices. Under these new criteria:
- Training for the right to practise public accounting continues to be offered only by CA firms; current mandatory assurance, audit and tax requirements remain unchanged.
- CA firms can apply for training positions in taxation, business advisory services and other areas, in addition to audit and assurance. In a small firm environment, it could include a combination of review, compilation and taxation engagements.
- Approved corporations and government departments will be recognized as CA Training Offices under specified criteria.
CA Firms Approved to Train Students Within the Traditional Audit-Based Career Path
CA firms have a long history of training CAs, and continue their important role. CA Students seeking to practise public accounting will still receive their Approved Training Program from CA firms, typically within their Audit and Assurance practice.

CA Training in Expanded Experience Opportunities
There are also opportunities to train in business and government. In Canada, 70 per cent of CAs work outside public practice. These corporations, government agencies, and non-assurance practice areas with CA firms - have partnered recently with their Provincial CA Institutes to develop a training program for CA Students in Canada and Bermuda.
